The New Treasure Hunt wrong choice

A recent episode of the US show Deal or No Deal reminded me of this moment from 30 years ago on “The New Treasure Hunt”. The rules were a contestant would select one of 30 boxes and won what was in it with the top prize a whopping $25000, big by 1976 standards. That is unless she decided to deal for some money before the box was opened. This is one of only 2 times in the shows 4 year run that the outcome was as you see.

Sometimes Geoff would do just that making the contestant look like a real sucker. One time a constestant won some dough – no, not cash – but real bread dough.

I know $1,800 is a lot of money in 1975, but when she saw the check, she looked like an absolute jackass.

They stop using the $500 Bill on July 14, 1969.

$25,000 in 1975 would be worth more than $400 billion today…shame.

“I’m sorry bit the correct codes for the top prize were 00008935601, 00008876992, 000099890055, and Z4-00310390990. Sorry, but we have a lovely collection of consolation prizes for you. Have a great trip back to Tulsa!”

I loved this show as a kid. It was like a birthday party.

If I brought back this show, I would have a $1,000,000 top prize in one of 25 boxes, I would have men AND women play instead of just women (the only reason they forbade men to play is because they were too scared!), and I would have Ty Treadway host. Also, I would also have klunks that are less stupid. After getting klunked, he contestant would receive a $1,000 savings bond as a consolation prize.

When did the stop issuing $500 bills in American currency. I remember this show, but don’t remember seeing $500 bills. They need to bring them back. We need them now to make paying for gas easier!
